Saris and kurtas and waistcoats (oh my!) Bollywood stars flaunt the rural look for designer Vikram Phadnis at Lakme Fashion Week
The runway at the Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) 2013 was transformed into a film set of sorts at the end of Day Four.
In collaboration with Swades foundation, designer Vikram Phadnis presented a celebrity-packed show that celebrated rural India.
The ramp was decorated with hanging kerosene lanterns, creating the perfect background
Together, the designer and the foundation brought to life the artistic work of the communities of Raigad and Ratnagiri districts of Maharashtra.
Ronnie Screwvala, the founder and trustee of Swades Foundation, opened the evening with a small speech on the goals and dreams of the NGO.
The 50-minute show featured 70 ensembles presented by models, celebrities and TV personalities.
Presenting rural as fashionable, Vikram gave his creative touches to garments inspired by the sun
The collection consisted mainly of traditional ethnic Indian outfits in shades of yellow and gold, which included saris, kurtas, lehengas, cowl salwars, dupattas and waistcoats.
In a unique showcase, craftsmen from the districts were escorted on the ramp by young and veteran Bollywood actors and TV stars such as Ileana D'Cruz, Amit Sadh, Arbaaz Khan and Malaika Arora Khan, Ayushmann Khurrana, Dia Mirza, Jeetendra, Juhi Chawla, Kunal Kapoor, Neha Dhupia, Rahul Bose, Raj Kumar Yadav, Ram Kapoor, Sakshi Tanwar and Sushant Singh Rajput.
Day Five opened with young designers who showcased both accessories and apparel.
Kaabya & Sasha's collective show was a combination of quirky underwater design, cute beach dresses and sexy swimsuits, with and trendy jewellery.
The top attraction on the final day of the fashion week was a sultry Bipasha Basu strutting her stuff on the runway for designer duo Shantanu & Nikhil.
